day 3

another day without rain - thank god. today i woke up, had oatmeal on my new stove, avoided the showers, and started riding. absolutely gorgeous scenery. you know the startup screen for windows xp? the one with the big green grassy hill? well, i now know where it is. it's along highway #2 between halifax and truro and there's hundreds of them just like it. just beautiful, green, grassy hills with the odd farm or lake every so often. wow...

ya, so on a completely different note, i had quite the scare in truro. the road i came in on got very busy all of a sudden. in one particularly narrow portion of the road, the wheel of my trailer contacted the wheel of a moving truck. luckily, we were going the same speed and nothing major happened, but the rubber button on the wheel that you can push to remove it was sheared off. kinda freaky. not really too clear whose fault it was in hindsight. bottom line - i should be more careful.

but speaking of carefulness, that mirror i picked up for my helmet really helped me out today. see, on a road bike, it's quite a bit tougher to look behind you. the bike itself is less stable than a mountain bike and you're also usually leaning farther forward. blah, blah, blah... ya the mirror helped out. yay! obviously didn't prevent what could've been a major accident. whatever... i'll shutup now.
