day 10

here's an understatement... waking up on the side of a bike trail with fields of grass around me in every direction feels pretty damn good. nobody around for miles... just me cooking my oatmeal looking out at the start of another gorgeous day. i love this...

my bike ride was pretty interesting - after following la route verte up to riviere du loop (and periodically laughing at absolutely nothing for reasons that are too tough to describe - it was just a great vibe i guess) i had to try to get onto this other westbound road. as an unfortunate result of this, i ended up on the transcanada highway where, especially in quebec, cycling is prohibited. off to the right was a dirt trail that was travelling parallel to the highway... the sense that i'm at some critical juncture of decision making is upon me.

i decide to take the trail and it's cool... for a while. the more i travel down it, the more doubts i begin to have. eventually i figure out that this trail is meant strictly for atv's as the trail slowly disintegrates into a muddy, steep, downward embankment. it's all i can do to keep this trailer & bike setup from flipping. crap. so this trail eventually goes through this drainage tunnel under some other highway. it's right here - feet in a couple inches of mud, racing bike being pushed through ditchwater, that there were some important decision making factors that were omitted back at that juncture. oh well...

after resolving where the hell that trail had taken me, i eventually made it to the town of koubouraska - about 40km sw of riviere du loop. so i spot a motel and go on inside... BOOM. this girl who works there is phenomenally gorgeous. and when i say "phenomenally", i mean this girl's attractiveness cancelled any other thoughts i had. and yet she spoke hardly a word of english. so here i am useless with the french language and in the midst of this like attraction-brain freeze... my awkwardness never felt so compelling. ouch.
